Product or recipe — which to create

Product — for a single item. Recipe — for a home-cooked dish with specific ingredients and known final cooked weight. No exact data? Just describe it to Mira.

Product — use this when...

  • You know protein, fat, carbs, and calories per 100 g of the finished product: from a store label or a reliable source for a specific brand.
  • Or it is a raw ingredient, such as milk, egg, or banana, where standard nutrition values apply.

Creating a product takes about 10 seconds: name + protein/fat/carbs + calories per 100 g.

The product is saved to your personal catalog and appears first in your search results.

Recipe — use this when...

  • It is a home-cooked dish with multiple ingredients.
  • You know the weight of each ingredient.
  • You know the final cooked weight of the dish — the mass after boiling, frying, baking, and so on.

Mira will ask you step by step for:

  1. Recipe name.
  2. Each ingredient + grams. For cooked dishes, this means the raw grams you put into the pot, pan, or baking dish.
  3. Final weight — required for boiled, fried, and baked dishes because water evaporates and the mass changes.
  4. Description — optional.

Calories per 100 g of the finished dish are calculated honestly: total calories of all ingredients ÷ final weight. This is how you would write a recipe in a home cookbook.

After creation, the recipe appears in search like a regular product, marked My recipe so you can tell it from catalog items with a similar name: add “150 g of my chicken soup”, and everything is calculated automatically.

When NOT to create a recipe — just tell Mira

If you do not have all the numbers on hand, especially the final cooked weight, do not create a recipe. Describe the dish in words instead:

“For lunch I had chicken soup with noodles and vegetables, about one bowl”

Mira will estimate calories based on general knowledge about the dish — how exactly is in Where Mira gets her calorie numbers. This is faster and often more accurate than a recipe with made-up weights:

  • A rough estimate honestly reflects uncertainty: “about 350–400 kcal”.
  • A “recipe” with guessed grams looks precise, but is actually misleading.
