Description and reported dosing

What is PT-141?

Bremelanotide, a melanocortin receptor agonist. Unlike the PDE-5 inhibitors it does not act on blood vessels but on the central nervous system — on desire rather than on blood flow.

It is one of the few peptides in this catalogue that is a registered medicine. The FDA approved it on 21 June 2019 under the name Vyleesi, for acquired generalised hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women and nothing else.

Use by men is not approved and is off-label. Phase 2 studies in men were run: in a group of 21 men, 80% reported a satisfying sexual experience, 52% an improvement in erectile function and 39% an increase in desire, with onset in 30 to 60 minutes.
